Rafiki's Planet Watch

Rafiki's Planet Watch gives guests a look at how the animals are cared for at Disney's Animal Kingdom, and how guests themselves can care for the animals of the world and the earth itself. Named after the wise old baboon from Disney's The Lion King, this area is clearly the most educational portion of the park, but it also has some of the most fascinating areas. To get to Rafiki's Planet Watch (and then back again), guests must board the Wildlife Express, a tarnished old steam train, with luggage piled high on the roof that would look right in place chugging through a bustling African village. During the 5½ minute ride, guests get a small backstage glimpse of the workings of the park, including some of the buildings where the animals sleep at night. After disembarking, a beautiful pathway lined with thick vegetation leads guests straight to the entrance of the main part of Rafiki's Planet Watch, Conservation Station. Upon entering this large, airy building, guests are immersed in a variety of exhibits. They include: Eco Heroes, where guests can have a conversation with famous biologists and conservationists by means of advanced voice-recognition software and video screens; Animal Cams, video screens that allow guests cool views of the safari and animal sleeping quarters through numerous movable video cameras which guests control; the Affection Section, an area outside Conservation Station where kids get a chance to pet familiar animals like goats, sheep, and pigs; a vetrinary clinic, where guests can watch doctors care for sick animals; and Song of the Rainforest, the most amazing activity at Rafiki's Planet Watch, in which guests listen to a stereo audio presentation with sounds from a rainforest. Close your eyes as you listen, and you'll be transported!
