Blizzard Beach Blizzard Beach was the result of
a freak winter storm that hit Florida. As soon as the
snow fell plans were underway for a new ski resort in
Florida. Soon, the weather got much warmer and the snow
started to melt. The designers were about to give up when
they spotted an alligator coming down the slopes of the
mountain, and that is when they realized that the melting
snow had created the largest, fastest water slide in the
world. The entire ski resort was transformed into a water
park. The chair lift now transports guests to the top of
the mountain instead of skiers, the ski jump was
transformed into the tallest (120 feet) and fastest (60 m.p.h.)
water slide in the world. The centerpiece of Blizzard
Beach is "Mount Gushmore." Most of the water
attractions are located off this mountain. You may be
wondering to yourself, how do you get to the top. The
answer is quite simple. You can either take a "ski
lift" to the top of the mountain or you can walk up
the stairs. Please Note: If you plan to take a ski lift
to the top of Mt. Gushmore it is important that you do so
as soon as the park opens, otherwise you will be waiting
in line for approximately 30-45 minutes. There are nine
water attractions for you to expirence here at Blizzard
Beach, as well as three restaurants, and one store. Summit Plummet High atop Mt. Gushmore is the
Summit Plummet. This 120 ft.. high water slide is the
fastest and tallest waterside in the world! If you want
to beat the crowds, ride it as soon as the park opens.
Summit Plummet is the best water slide that you will ever
expirence. Everybody is clocked going down the slide and
average speeds are as high as 60 miles per hour. This
slide is the best water attraction here at Walt Disney
World. im scared just looking at this beast
The Slush Gusher is not
as tall and not as steep as the Summit Plummet, but it is
just as fun. It has got double humps in it to add to your
adventure. The Slush Gusher is also the tallest slide of
its kind. This waterside is an eight lane speed slide that sends you soaring stomach first from the top of Mt. Gushmore all the way to the bottom. ill win next time!
Teamboat Springs is a
family raft ride which can accommodate up to six persons.
You start on the eastern side of Mount Gushmore and are
sent twirling down the mountain going up and down, and
off the walls. This happens to be the longest family raft
ride in the world! Dont fall over the side Aunty Jan!
The Runoff Rapids is a
inner tube ride that is located on the far side of the
mountain. You can go down by yourself, with someone else,
or go down as a threesome. Once you have decided who you
are going down with you have another choice you can go
down in an open slide (which is a slide that does not go
into any tunnels) or a closed slide. (which is a slide
that is entirely in a tunnel, and in the dark.) It's a
great ride! I preferred the closed slide, but the choice
is yours. In Snow Stormers you
ride on mats stomach first. There are three identical
Snow Stormer slides, and if you have got your family with
you you can race all the way to the bottom. This slide is
just like a skiers slalom course. For the young children
in your family, you may want to bring them here. This is
a kid size version of some of the slides here at Blizzard
Beach and a snow castle fountain play area. Here at the Ski Patrol
Training Camp young teens and pre teens are challenged
with a few slides, and obstacles. There is thin ice
training where you must cross the water by stepping on
icebergs. Another thing to do here is check out the Ski
Patrols shelter which is in a A-Framed building where
children grab onto a T bar which is connected to wire
above, and glide to the end of the line, and eventually
fall into the water. The last thing in this area is a
slide that looks exactly like part of a sewer pipe. Here guests are sent
over mongols in these two inner tube slides. If you are in the mood
to just sit back and relax at Blizzard Beach then this is
where you want to be. Cross Country Creek circles the
entire park with exits designated around the park. Enjoy
the scenery and view all the slides for yourself. But
watch out for all the jets that are located on the sides
of the creek. Melt-Away Bay is a huge
wave pool with gigantic waves. (not as big as Typhoon
Lagoon's) Waterfalls are formed on either side of the one
acre pool by "melting snow." |
