Liberty Square

Liberty Square is themed to the Colonial era. A time when electricity was unharnessed and the current day America was being formed. The centerpiece of Liberty Square is The Liberty Tree, a large oak like those on which the Sons of Liberty hung lanterns after the Boston Tea Party. The 13 lanterns hanging on the tree represent the 13 original states. The attractions in Liberty Square are The Hall of Presidents, a show starring Audio-Animatronics of all the presidents; The Haunted Mansion, a spectacular ride that's not too big on fright, but big on special effects; and The Liberty Belle Riverboat, a real steamboat that gives guests a ride around Tom Sawyer's Island. The restaurants in Liberty Square are The Liberty Tree Tavern, Columbia Harbour House, and Sleepy Hollow; and they serve fish, chicken, clam chowder, sandwiches, fruit, and baked potatos. The shops in this land are Heritage House, Yankee Trader, Liberty Square Portrait Gallery, Ichabod's Landing, and Ye Olde Christmas Shoppe; and they sell antiques, jewelry, items in brass, pewter, copper, and wood, kitchen items, Haunted Mansion merchandise, and Christmas items.

Attractions

The Hall of Presidents

The Hall of Presidents is a patriotic show starring all 41 presidents. It begins with a wide screen film, narrated by Maya Angelou, showing the history of the American Constitution. Using photographs and paintings, the Disney Imagineers have managed to take a not-so-interesting topic and turn it into an appealing film. After the film concludes, the screen lifts up like a curtain to reveal all 41 presidents. After a roll call, both Abraham Lincoln and Bill Clinton recite speeches about the need to preserve the American government. Even if you don't think you'd like this show, or if your not American, go see it, since you'll surely be amazed by the Audio-Animatronics, which are among the most lifelike in all of Walt Disney World.

The Liberty Belle Riverboat

The Liberty Belle Riverboat is a real steam-driven stern wheeler that takes guests on a relaxing cruise around Tom Sawyer Island. Guests have three levels of decks to choose from, but you should pick a seat where you can see both shores, since during the ride the boat passes interesting sights on both shores, such as an Indian camp, a burning cabin, and wildlife. Also, during this 15-minute voyage, there is narration that explains

Fact: everything about the riverboat is real, except for the steering, since the boat travels on an underwater track

The Haunted Mansion

The Haunted Mansion is a spooky ride loaded with special effects. Once inside the mansion, guests are directed to a room that seems to be stretching! After this, guests move on to a boarding area where you enter vehicles called Doom Buggies. The Doom Buggies take you down hallways past door knockers that knock themsleves, busts that follow you, a live suit of armour, a plaque that says "Tomb Sweet Tomb", and all the while listening to a spine-tingling narration. You don't actually see any ghosts until you pass through a room where a head in a crystal ball is calling the ghosts to appear. The Doom Buggies climb a staircase and guests can see a grand dining room below with tons of amazingly realistic ghosts dancing and partying. Guests are then taken through the attic past many antiques and apparitions. The Doom Buggies then proceed outside where dozens of "grim grinning ghosts" are singing and dancing the night away in a graveyard. Guests pass many humorously-spooky sights such as a supernatrural band playing a haunting tune while ghostly busts sing the words, a cemetary watchman whose knees actually shake, and a bewitching opera singer who must sing for eternity. Near the end of the ride the narrator warns guests to beware of hitchhiking ghosts. As the Doom Buggies round the next corner, guests are met with a series of mirrors containing their images, plus the image of a ghost sitting beside them! All in All, this is one of the Magic Kingdom's best attractions.

Roryfact: in the stretching room at the beginning of the attraction, the walls are actually moving up, but at Disneyland's Haunted Mansion in California the floor moves down!
-the ride doesn't actually take place inside The Haunted Mansion, but instead takes place inside a large warehouse-sized building hidden behind it!

Grim grinng ghosts are everywhere!!!!
