Asia

Surrounding guests with lush vegetation and crumbling ancient temples, Asia is the newest and most beautiful land at Disney's Animal Kingdom. Set around the lovely village of Anandapur, this land is largely inspired by regions such as Indonesia and Thailand. Attractions in Asia include Flights of Wonder, an entertaining bird show; Maharajah Jungle Trek, a beautiful walking trail full of exotic animals including Tigers; and Kali River Rapids, a thrilling white-water adventure. Restaurants in this land include Chakrandi Chicken Shop and Anandapur Ice Cream. They serve chicken satay, roasted corn-on-the-cob, ice cream, drinks, and snacks. The only shop in Asia is Mandala gifts and it sells Asian nicknacks and tiger related merchandise.

Flights of Wonder

A celebration of the world's birds, Flights of Wonder is a pleasant, and surprisingly humorous, show. Unlike many other normal bird shows, this one actually has a storyline. Although it often changes, one such story was about a young birdhandler fresh out of college, full of technical knowledge. The show's cast, with the help of many interesting birds, taught him that there's alot more to our feathered friends than what you can learn in books. Hawks, Falcons, Parrots, and even a large Crane named "Frasier Crane", perform many interesting acts shuch as singing and swooping low over guests. One small bird even demonstrates his instinct to kill his pray by slamming it against a rock!

Maharajah Jungle Trek

Meandering through the beautiful Royal Forest of Anandapur, the Maharajah Jungle Trek lets guests see some of Asia's most rare and fascinating creatures. The wondrous Komodo Dragons are the first animals spotted along the trail, followed by the unusual Malayan Tapir. Next, guests enter a large hut from which they can look out at the fascinating Giant Flying Fox, largest bat in the world, and the smaller Rodrigues Fruit Bat. As guests walk deeper and deeper into the jungle, they come upon ancient temple ruins adorned with beautiful carvings. These ruins are home to animals such as Bateng (wild cattle), and the magnificent Bengal tiger. The tiger enclosure can be viewed from several different locations, some of which bring you within inches of the carnivorous beasts. At the end of the trail, guests can enter a huge aviary for glimpses of exotic Asian birds.

Kali River Rapids

Disney's wettest ride yet, Kali River Rapids takes guests on an adventurous rafting expedition, through an Asian jungle down the Chakrandi river. After guests board the large 12-seater circular rafts, they begin a long ascent up a ramp, as a thick mist envelops them and animal sounds are heard all around. Approaching the crest of the hill, the mist clears, and guests catch a glimpse of a huge geyser shooting out of the middle of the river. Surprisingly though, the raft floats right over it, but not until it has thoroughly soaked the guests in the front before it dissapears underneath the raft and then soaking the guests in the back as the geyser shoots back in to the air. Like many of the other attractions in Disney's Animal Kingdom, Kali River Rapids has a conservation message, although it is told in a truly thrilling way. After drifting down a slow portion of the river, guests find themselves in a section of the jungle that has been gutted by loggers. The smell of burnt wood fills the air as small fires burn on either shore, and a logging truck stuck, teetering on the edge of the steep river bank, has gotten what it deserves. Guests look overhead with trepidation as the raft starts to pass under a large clump of burning logs, but before you know it, the river takes a steep drop. And it's all the more exciting since the raft spins as it plummets downwards, and whoever is seated at the leading edge when it reaches bottom, will no longer be high and dry (chances are they were already soaked by the geyser though!). The raft then gets tossed around in the rapids as the river twists and turns before calming down at the approach to the loading area. There's one more wet surprise though, before you can set foot on dry land. Those two peaceful-looking elephant statues on either side of the river have their trunks in the air poised to shower you with water. Whether or not they spray you depends on the whim of the guests standing on the bridge overlooking the statues, since there are two buttons on the bridge that will make the statues spray water. This is a perfect way to get revenge after you've been sprayed yourself!

This is a WET ride (Especialy if your in the rain!)
